Add Bambu Labs Spools using NFC tags from phone without having to put spool in AMS#851

I would like to read Bambu Lab spools directly from my phone.
I defeats the purpose of having a filament management system if i can’t add stock to my inventory if I have to open each package and insert into my AMS and then remove it in order to add more inventory.

Other apps like “Spool Scanner” and “SpoolTap” I found on Google Play can read Bambu Labs NFC tags entire contents without issue. I didn’t see any readily apparent way to link them to Simply Print.

Maybe integrate some of the other apps as a work around if you can’t incorporate this directly into the Simply Print App due to some legal or technical issues.

I’m afraid the Bambu Lab native NFC tags are not open. They’re encrypted and we cannot simply decrypt them. If we could, it probably wouldn’t be legal. You can’t tap them with your phone. All we can get from them are the IDs.

When they’re already connected, they’re already created in SimplyPrint, and they have a relation to the spool, then we can do it but until then we cannot.

In other cases we can tap the NFC tag (that would be for Creality, Anycubic, and other schools like that), but not for Bambu Lab unfortunately. What you can do is scan the barcode on the box. That way we can identify what product it is and then you can create it easily and assign the NFC tag as step 2.

We wish we could make it a one-click experience and make it easier for you but it’s simply not possible.

Can we add a 3rd party integration like “Spool Scanner” or “Spool Tap” which are available in the google play store?

Do elaborate; what would such integrations do / offer?

The AMS cant scan unless the spool is removed from the box and plastic and inserted as if I am going to print. If I order 50 spools of filamement. I don’t want to pull them all out the box just to add them to my inventory in Simply Print. If i can add every other brand that offers an RFID option, I think we can find some alternative to adding the Bambu spools in Simply print that is practical. My filament racks are not near my computer so the USB RFID reader that has to be attached to a PC is not the most practicle either. Can we not some how figure out how to use one of the apps the apps from the play store through the “Integrations” of Simply Print? As noted before, “Spool Scanner” or “Spool Tap” work from my phone to read Bambu spools. I have know way to tie either of those apps to Simply Print.

I have discovered that “Spool Tap” is able to export a CSV file. I importeed it into simply print which seams to work. I will keep you posted when i take one of my scanned boxes of filament and insert it into the AMS

The use of “Spool Tap” works resonably well with simply print. I export a CSV file from Spool Tap and import it into Simply print. May a little collaboration between the two companies might be the way to make this seamless.

It’s usually not that easy to simply integrate with third-party apps. It would put the burden of integration on them so they would add a button to use our API or something like that to create the spools more easily over in SimplyPrint.

What I find interesting here is if they can do something then we can too. Whether it’s completely legal or Bambu would like us to be able to do it, I cannot say. I know that the decryption keys have been “leaked” and we have known that this could mean that we could read some of them. We imagine that they will switch them out at some point or that it’s against our Terms of Service.

If that’s the case then we’re not interested in going through loopholes that have third-party apps do the TOS-breaching action and then bring the data to us. We’ll definitely check it out and reach out to our Bambu rep to hear what they say about this.

At any rate if they produce a CSV file and the import of that into SimplyPrint loses some data or isn’t as smooth as it can be, that is something we can improve on as well!

Yes. Some kind of pre set cross reference to link your fields with Spool tap. It wes fairly easy for me to map the fields using Simply prints import tool. If you don’t get much help from Bambu then your may make mention of Spool Tap but have some disclaimer with it so that people can use at their own risk should Bambu try and take anyone to task. I have attached the output file from Spool Tap for your reference.
