Printer Groups -> Floor plan find Printers faster like on google maps#779

The more printers we get the harder it is sometimes to find in which group the printer is. Mapping the real world to the simplyprint dashboard. It would be nice to have something like the table plan in a restaurant for the printers. So that you could just pinch and pan just to see where the printers are and selecting the right one. Like on google maps where you can easily navigate and understand which printer is which one. Also you could find faster where the problem printer is. Especially for new workers/cheap labour this is very benificial.

Maybe having different switches to show Filaments/AMS loaded. Or print status or tags etc. Or even integrate with the new todo feature of the queue, so people see where they need to go to do the todo task.

Hmh, how would you solve stacked printers? ^ I get the table plan / resturant layout comparison, but often times 2-3 printers are stacked on top of each other. Any ideas?

i thought about this issue as well. There would be 3 possible solutions:

  1. Use layers like in a shopping mall map. Where you just switch the layer. Most likely most people have 2 or maximum 3 layers of printers stacked.
  2. Make it 3d like when you press on google maps on the 3d features but much more looking from ground so that you see them stacked. You can test this if you go to high rise buildings maybe not new york manhatten but brooklyn. Then just get like 3 types of items that you can place in the room, Table, 2 story storage rack, 3 story storage rack. Image shows https://maps.app.goo.gl/bNcN52P5dzGaHwnh6
  3. As claude code doesn’t put out any limits the craziest and coolest would be if you scan the room and just place the printers inside of that. Like with:

    https://poly.cam/?utm_source=chatgpt.com
So uploading the entire printfarm room so you can navigate through it. Probably they have a white label solution or it would be possible to just upload the 3d model and go from there. Many of your clients probably have 3d scanners anyways and know how to handle the 3d models. It would just be important to be able to place the dashboards of each printers in the model room.

when you put it like that it would probably be a combination of an external prebuild library for navigating the 3d space, external model upload + placing the dashboard cards of the printers. Probably not as hard as i thought in the first place… :)
